This Summit was off the chain!

We were joined by brilliant women entrepreneurs at the kick off summit for Sister Cities Project. Sister Cities Project is a 501c3 that creates formal partnerships between affluent communities and underserved communities to create programs and events that allow the two areas to build a true relationship. Cafe X: By Any Beans Necessary was asked to speak about our ‘why’, sisterhood, and the challenges we face as Black women in business.

Amazing panelists indeed.

Bottom line: it’s about leveling the playing field. Dr. Dell Gines, senior community development advisor with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, blessed us with a presentation that revealed stark statistics. Black women make up 59 percent of all Black-owned businesses in the nation. Between 2002 to 2012 Black women doubled the amount of revenue they put into the economy from $20 billion to $40 billion. Investment comes in all sizes and shapes, from mentorship to capital and working capital. But for Cafe X - it’s monetary investment that is needed at our stage in development. We discussed our proven a scalable model, how we organized the social capital, and we are more than ready to commit to a higher level of service of our loving community. When we say “level the playing field,” we mean redistribute the wealth necessary to bring successful Black businesses to scale.

Seriously. Do it.
